2020 Recap

Hey Everyone,

2020 is a wrap and so it's time to look back on everything done in the last year. For Embers of Solace, 2020 was the year of the skill tree. For better or worse it  took all year to research, develop, test and then finally implement the skill tree system. The skill tree ended up a little larger than planned - it has 300 different skills to pick from. This should provide enough diversity of choices to entice a larger variety of character builds.  A screenshot of the skill tree in game
The Year Ahead

Moving forward, 2021 will be the year of magic. This means exploring and developing the magic system for the game. We have some interesting ideas to help spice up how magic is used in the game. The core mechanic is magical affinity - the more you use one type of elemental magic, the stronger you get with it. However, this does have a disadvantage in that you are much weaker to the opposite elemental type. It's not as absolute as that seems, but we'll reveal more in a future post.

Outside of that, we expect to flush out some more quest and NPCs to interact with this year. Each NPC should also have their own unique schedule and dialog. These things are all in pursuit of working towards a playable test demo. Once released, this demo will help us continue refining the systems we have so far.
